This project required planning permission as it is to the the side of an existing property, a large house over three storeys. The client wanted to extend the family living space off the kitchen which is at first floor level. The family space was doubled by adding an extension over a new garage below, with a pitched roof to match existing and ceilings that follow the line of the roof. Views across the garden and over Dublin bay through sliding and folding glass doors onto a wraparound balcony allow the space to be opened up in summer months and prevent overheating. Windows from the original gable were reused to the side, minimising waste and keeping costs down.
